HR jobs in Mumbai for experienced: read the role
- HR titles cover different work. An HR generalist, an HR operations role and a talent acquisition role are not the same job.
- The first three duties show which one it is. The title does not.
- Match yourself to the duties, then write one CV for each job you keep.
You search for HR jobs in Mumbai for experienced people. You see HR executive, HR generalist, HR operations, talent acquisition, HR business partner and more. They overlap, and the area in the title does not tell you the work.
This post shows how to sort them by what the person does.
Why the titles blur
Companies name HR roles in their own way. A small team may call one person an "HR manager" who does everything. A larger team splits the same work into five titles.
So do not sort by title. Sort by the verbs in the first duties.
What the main groups can mean
These are common patterns, not rules. Read the duties to confirm.
HR generalist. Covers many tasks: records, policies, employee queries, onboarding, exits. The duties name several areas at once.
HR operations. Runs the processes: payroll inputs, joining and exit steps, employee records, letters, the helpdesk. For HR operations jobs in Mumbai, look for accuracy, deadlines and systems in the duties.
Talent acquisition. Hires people: intake with hiring managers, sourcing, screening, offers. The duties name positions and closure.
HR business partner. Works with a business team on people matters: performance, growth, hiring plans, employee relations. The duties name managers and leaders.
Learning and development. Plans training. The duties name programmes and feedback.
Compensation and benefits. Works on pay structures, reviews and benefits. The duties name cycles and data.
Read the first three duties
Read them as verbs.
- "Process", "maintain", "update": the work is to run steps correctly.
- "Source", "screen", "close": the work is to fill roles.
- "Advise", "partner", "resolve": the work is to guide managers and employees.
Copy the first three duties into a note. If you can do two of the three today, the job fits. The method is in how to read a job description.
Lines that need a second look
- "Handle end-to-end HR". Likely one person for everything. Ask the size of the team.
- "Employee engagement". Look for a named activity and a named result.
- "Statutory compliance". The role deals with rules and filings. Check how much you have done.
- "Fast-paced". The team is likely short of people.
- "Competitive salary". Not disclosed. Ask early.
These are signals about how clear the role is. They are not insults to the company.
Tell two similar jobs apart
Take two listings titled "HR executive".
Job one lists: update employee records, prepare joining and exit letters, run the helpdesk, check payroll inputs.
Job two lists: take hiring requests from managers, source candidates, schedule interviews, close offers.
Both say "HR". The first runs processes. The second fills roles. A person with years in payroll inputs and records fits the first. A person with years in hiring fits the second.
This example is written for the post. It is not a real listing.
The area in the title
Some searches add an area, such as BKC. The area says where the office is. It says nothing about the work. Decide your travel limit first. Then read the duties of each listing in that area as you would any other.
Write one CV for each job
An operations role and a hiring role ask for different lines first. Put the facts that answer the first three duties at the top of the CV.
Use the job's own words where they are true for you. Never add a tool, a number or a title you do not have. The rules are in how to tailor your CV without making anything up.
A short routine
Day 1. Collect listings from the last seven days.
Day 2. Read the first three duties of each. Sort them into "runs processes", "fills roles" and "advises".
Day 3. Keep ten at most, matched to your level.
Day 4. Tailor one CV per job. Send two applications and ask for one referral.
Where Jobsift fits
You describe the HR job you want in your own words. Jobsift reads listings from the last seven days in your city and keeps the ten that fit what you wrote and what your CV shows. Looking is free.
If one job is worth a CV, Jobsift rewrites your CV for it, using only what is already in your CV. The company name and the apply link come with it.
It cannot promise a reply.
Questions
What is the difference between an HR generalist and HR operations?
A generalist covers many areas at once, including employee queries and policies. HR operations runs the processes: records, letters, payroll inputs and the helpdesk. Titles vary, so read the duties.
Does an HR job in BKC differ from one elsewhere?
The area tells you where the office is. It does not tell you the work. Read the duties and check the travel against your limit.
How should experienced HR candidates write the CV?
Lead with the work you own and the systems you use, in the job's words where they are true for you. Cut what does not help this job.
